Zachary Jones is a 56 year old male who was awarded SSDI for liver failure. He worked in sales for an auto parts distributer from September 2004 to April of 2005. Prior to that he worked in parts for a motorcycle company from 1997 to 2003. He also worked as a construction estimator in electrical construction from 1990 to 1996. Mr. Jones has cirrhosis with liver failure, chronic Kidney disease and severe lower extremity neuropathy. Additionally he has had multiple falls and loss of balance that caused him to fracture one of his shoulders. Mr. Jones also has gastritis, esophagitis, degeneration of his cervical spine and a history of seizures.
In January of 2007 Mr. Jones was hospitalized with black stools, jaundice, anemia and GE bleeding, fatigue and poor appetite. He was hospitalized several times for various health problems over the next few years.
Zachary Jones retained the Law Office of Neil H. Good to represent him before the Social Security Administration. An initial application was filed to obtain disability benefits. His initial application was denied as well as his request for reconsideration. Attorney Good filed a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) on Mr. Jones’ behalf.
Attorney Good outlined to the ALJ that Zachary Jones suffers from cirrhosis with liver failure with esophageal varices and banding, ascites with multiple paracenteses and portal hypertension. This required multiple hospitalizations. Mr. Jones suffers from gastrointestinal hemorrhaging which required several transfusions. This caused malnutrition and weight loss. Mr. Jones has severe neuropathy of his legs and feet with pain, numbness and tingling causing loss of balance, multiple falls and difficulty walking.
In addition to Mr. Jones’ physical disabilities Attorney Good outlined to the ALJ that Mr. Jones suffers from depressive syndrome. This is evidenced by medically documented persistence of anhedonia, appetite disturbance with change in weight, sleep disturbance, decreased energy and difficulty concentrating or thinking. The physical disabilities in tandem with the mental impairments not only made any vocational pursuits impractical for Zachary Jones they made daily activities and social functions unrealistic.
The Social Security Administration awarded Zachary Jones Social Security benefits. They ruled that Mr. Jones was not able to perform his past relevant work. A combination of his physical and mental disabilities impeded his ability to do all work.
